As you may have noticed, we recently updated the appearance of this website. The old site has been languishing since summer while we made and went to craft fairs. We posted some of our activities on Instagram and Facebook, but this poor site got no love beyond basic maintenance.
What’s been happening is that our path has changed somewhat because of some fairs we applied to attend. We began to notice that fairs only want to invite individuals, not businesses. This seemed very odd, as we have encountered many other mother/daughter businesses, not to mention partner/partner teams, but that didn’t seem to matter. For one fair we both wanted to attend, we divided our specialties and applied as Origami Retreat and Gillian Lancaster Art.
Over Christmas we continued to appear art craft fairs as Leaves of Paper, selling both origami and art-based cards and decorations, and people continued to be fascinated by the breadth of items we offered for sale. While clearly as being of two generations are items appeal to different demographics, they also appeal to those buying for parents or offspring.
Since then, Caroline has been slowly removing her origami stars and cards from the Leaves of Paper Etsy shop, and has created a new shop. I have also moved my art into a different Etsy shop. This isn’t a parting of the ways, and for Christmas fairs we will still be there as Leaves of Paper, complete with our eclectic Christmas decorations, cards, banners and garlands. Over the summer we will see how it works out to be Leaves of Paper and Origami Express at craft fairs. As I said earlier, changes, changes, changes.
This means that what we bring to fairs – and have in the Etsy shop – will skew more towards my cards, the art that inspired them, prints, banners and seasonal wreaths. Caroline will offer her origami cards, decorations, garlands and latest addition, beautiful origami flowers. This means that you will have many more items to choose from – and hopefully less confusion as to why there are two different styles at one table!
I am still busy creating, and currently working on a line of yoga cards for sale in The Crafted Arts Boutique, which operates from inside the Open Center Yoga in Bristol, PA. In the spirit of creating but not painting, I have also updated not just this site, but all five of my websites and given them a fresh, new, look. Look out for us this spring and come and say hi!
